JOIN THE MOVEMENT / SHUT THE CAMPS

WHY THIS MATTERS RIGHT NOW

The federal government purchased a building in Romulus to use as an ICE detention facility — in secret, without public notice, without environmental review, without community input. It is not yet operational. We have a narrow window to stop it by making sure every agency, official, and institution that holds infrastructure access — water, sewer, permits — understands: we are watching, and we will hold them accountable. Every share, every call, every conversation counts.

It happened in secret.

The federal government bought this building without notifying the City of Romulus, the State of Michigan, or the community. No public hearings. No environmental review. That alone is a legal violation.

They need to use our resources to open it.

The facility will impose a burden on local resources. It cannot operate without local water, sewer service, and the support of local fire, safety and health departments. They also need to secure permits. The City of Romulus, Wayne County drainage authorities, GLWA, and EGLE all have legal authority to slow or block this — and we're demanding they use it.

Local officials are accountable.

This isn't just a federal fight. Every county commissioner, every water authority board member, every state agency director who processes a request for this facility without full public process is making a choice. We are naming that choice.

Michigan is fighting back.

The City of Romulus joined the State in federal court. Attorney General Dana Nessel filed suit against DHS and ICE. This community is organized and lawyered up.

This is about all of us.

ICE detention camps in our backyard — built in secret — set a precedent for every community. If we stop this one, we send a message to every federal agency: you cannot operate in the dark in Michigan.

Every contribution counts in our fight for justice. Click to donate and help us continue our work in advocating for the closure of detention camps.
